How To Style Your Own Party
Styling a party at home doesn’t have to be difficult, it can be as simple as making floral arrangements for your space or creating a focal area such as a beverage station or dessert table. The idea of decorating might be overwhelming for some people because they’re not sure how to put their ideas together to create a cohesive look, so in this blog post I will give you 5 simple steps for styling your own party.
STEP 1
Figure out the main concept and idea you want for your party. For example, for this dinner party that I hosted for my Husband’s family visiting us from Holland, I wanted to create a beverage station by using our Quinn console table as the main focus piece.
Step 2
Pick your color direction. In this case I actually picked up the flowers first, you can never go wrong with white hydrangeas and I just loved the pop of bright green colors from the mums & daisies. I got all the flowers from my local Trader Joe’s and they ended up determining my color scheme, which I was very happy with because it was perfect for a nice summer party.
Step 3
Find matching accessories to go with your color scheme. You don’t want to go too overboard with matching everything to ONE color because that would be an overkill. For example, because I already had my flowers and console table picked out for this party, my final color scheme was going to be white, natural wood, gold/antique brass & bright green. So to keep with the pops of green color I chose bright green straws, San Pellegrino sparkling bottled water & minted lemonade in our glass drink dispenser. Clear glass will always work with any color choice and it will help to break up a matchy-matchy color story too.
Step 4
Layering! What I mean by that is adding extra dimension to your pieces by using another core color fabric or linen. For example, I used a white napkin draped over our wooden crate and it added a nice pop of white between the wood pieces.
Step 5
Tie it all together by having an anchor piece. An anchor piece can be anything like: balloons, signs, paper tassel garlands, etc. For this party, I DIY’d this paper tassel garland because I already had the tissue paper and the colors matched perfectly with my color scheme. It was a little time consuming but super easy to make, check out this tutorial if you want to try it yourself! By stringing it up from one side to the other side, it defines the space for the beverage area and really completes the whole look.
I hope these 5 simple steps have given you inspiration for the next party you host. Just remember to be creative, have fun and your party will be fabulous & Oh So Pretty! 😉
